Ela

hi, I'm Ela

so nice to meet you!

It took me a while to rethink what I would like to write in my 'about me' page. During all those years of my online presence I wrote a few about me pages, changing the content from time to time, because it didn't feel like a real me. You know this feeling, when your inner voice is telling you quietly you were not being 100% honest about your own self but you think it should be that way because others expect you to be professional, don't you?

I wanted to be professional, I wanted to sound like an expert, I wanted to be 'oh, she is so super cool lady in wine' person, and I wanted people to see that I do not make mistakes, that I was perfect in what I've been doing. It didn't feel like me, though. It was just her. This woman I though I should be, the Wine Lady created for my website. I thought that was the way to be. I haven't even been using my real name (Ela, in case you don't know :p), I was the Wine Lady I created in 2011 and I was hiding behind this imaginary person. ''I was her'' - past tense. Now, there is Me, Myself & I. And this 'about me' page will be, well, about the real me ;)

At a glance

To start with a short version for those, who don't have too much time for reading ;)

Privately.. My name is Ela (equivalent of Elisabeth, just in case). I was born and raised in Poland. I live nearby Saint Emilion, in a traditional old French estate surrounded by vineyards. I am passionate about many things and wine is one of them. My passions fulfills my everyday life, I think I can say I am a very happy person :)

Business-wise... I am an expert in wine as well as in marketing and management. I have more than ten years of marketing and management experience, and since 2011 I've been involved in wine industry. At the moment I am my own boss and I think it is the best boss I ever had ;)

I have a Master degree in Marketing and Management with a diploma in Business Management. As a matter of fact, I am also an engineer, as I have accomplished a Master of Science degree after studying at Poznan University of Technology.

I am certified by Wine and Spirits Education Trust (level 3 advanced) and I am now preparing to sit the WSET level 4 Diploma. I learn from winemakers, wine producers, Masters of Wine and other amazing wine people whom I meet on a day to day basis (yeah, living in the heart of the wine world is helping a lot!).

That's it! End of the short version ;) Now it's time for a few more details about me, so if you have a couple more minutes... ;)

"Follow your bliss
and the universe
will open doors
where there were
only walls"

-Joseph Campbell-

I got the job in one of the world biggest home-delivery wine companies in 2011. I knew nothing about wine at that time, I just got the job in marketing and 'wine' was an additional thing that, to be honest, I didn't care about at all. I've been told I do not need any wine knowledge, I just needed to be good in marketing. I was fine with that!

It was my boss, however, who pushed me to wine. Yet, he didn't say ''Ela, I think you will like it, taste some wines, read some books, you will see that being passionate about wine is super exciting''. Instead, I've heard ''You have to learn it all or I will fire you''. It was my first week in that place. Can you imagine??

if it's meant to be ...

I knew nothing about wine and I had to dive in to keep my job. I started a wine blog the same day. It was so huge amount of knowledge to absorb and I needed a space to keep the notes with an easy access from everywhere. I started to learn, because I had to. About a week later I was in love with wine and obsessed with learning more about it.

I wish I could have a chance to say THANK YOU to him.. although he was the way he was, the truth is that it was him who pushed me into wine. If not him (followed by many other fantastic people and wonderful opportunities), I wouldn't be where I am now...

... then it will be!

At the beginning Wine Lady was just a private 'online notebook' and no one else had access to it. About a year or year and a half later I made it public, so other people could learn with me. In 2014/2015 I abandoned writing in Polish and I started 'a new Wine Lady' in English. 2016 was all about changes as well, as I wanted something bigger than 'just a passionate wine blog', especially that I was very interested in wine business and wine marketing stuff.

So here I am now, in 2017, with tones of new ideas, with even bigger than ever passion to what I am doing. In the meantime I also moved to Bordeaux and since few years I am...

living the dream!

There are days that I still cannot believe I got what I was dreaming about. I mean I didn't get it just like that. No, no ;) It cost me a lot to get where I am now, but at the same time I know I was lucky and the Universe was very generous for me giving me this opportunity.

The ONLY thing I had to do was to take action, to make a decision, to finish what I had been doing and to start something totally new; I had to change my life 180 degrees and left everything I cared for behind, to be able to say, that now I am living my dream.

So here I am, living my dream in Bordeaux wine region, just a stone's throw from Saint Emilion (if you consider someone is strong enough to throw a stone that far :p). I live in a beautiful old maison with fantastic views as the chateau is surrounded by vineyards.

I used to dream about that one special day in which I would visit Saint Emilion, now it's my 'home town'.

I used to dream about going to see the vineyard and the winery in reality; now it's something I do on a daily basis.

I was wondering whether I will visit a chateau one day in my life; now I live in one.

I was inspired by so many wine people and their amazing stories, dreaming about the life with passion; now I can hope that I will be an inspiration for others, so they believe in their dreams and take another step towards their goals and dreams.

"Take the first step in faith.
You don't have to see
the whole staricase.
Just take the first step."

few last words

I would like to make sure you are aware that all of my reviews and posts present my own opinion and are based on my own experience and knowledge. I gain my knowledge from other people and by visiting places as well as books, film, courses and programs. If I quote any source, I will give credits within the post.

None of the posts has been sponsored and none of the wines was sent to me in order to write a review in exchange for financial benefits. From time to time, though, I may write about wines I received to taste, but if it happens, it will be a clear info within the post (such as in example here).

In the future there might be some affiliate links to products, but again, I will inform about them within the post. Same with guest posts - if any of the posts is a guest post, you will be informed about it within the post.

At Wine-Lady.com you will not find any negative or insulting comments about particular wines or people. Everyone has its own taste and the right to have own opinion. Moreover, even just one bottle of wine requires effort of many people involved in the production process, so being silent about their mistakes I want to show them respect they deserve.

I write for people who are at the legal age of drinking. Although I cover many marketing, business and blogging topics, I also write about wine. It means that at Wine-Lady.com you will find alcohol related content, wine tasting tips, info about wine producers and brands, etc.

Therefore you need to be at the legal drinking age in your country in order to read articles on this site, join my email list and follow me on social networks.

Remember that alcohol may be harmful for your health and alcohol abuse may be dangerous for you and your beloved ones. Drink with moderation.

Thank you for being here with me and thank you for your participation.

With love,

Ela, Wine Lady
