I find Jura wines not easy to taste and quite difficult to drink. The first time I tasted the Cotes du Jura Savagnin wine I was very surprised – not in a good way. I didn’t expect what I got in the glass and I said to myself I would never have the Jura wine again.
It’s been a while since that day and I think I’ve learned how to taste those wines and how to enjoy them.
Am I a fan of Jura wines? No. Would I choose this wine for an evening? No. Though, I am able to appreciate its original taste and I encourage you to do the same. I believe it is good to taste Jura from time to time and if you have to chose a wine to taste, try with Cotes du Jura Savagnin Jean-Luc Mouillard 2008; you won’t be disappointed.
Cotes du Jura Savagnin 2008 is a deep golden coloured wine with very original bouquet. In the aroma you can find spirit, dried sultans and dried sweet apple notes followed by nutty aromas and a hint of caramel.
The aroma reminds of oxidized wine but what normally would be considered as a wine fault, in this case it is a characteristic of the region for that type of wines. It’s good to remember about it while tasting.
In the mouth Cotes du Jura Savagnin 2008 is very dry (I’ve been expecting to taste some residual sugar because of the sweet notes in the aroma), balanced, gentle and concentrated. On the palate there are very nice herbal and earthy notes with apples, lime and a hint of toast. The finish is spicy, quite long, spirity and estery.
