It wasn’t a typical blind tasting as I couldn’t fit the wine into any sparkling wine region I know. I have tasted only a few sparkling wines from England therefore I had the right to be a bit misleading in guessing what a sparkling wine it was. The Dean Brut Plumpton Estate NV is a delicious English sparkling wine and not very easy to guess while tasted blind!
Plumpton Estate The Dean Brut NV is a beautiful lemon-green coloured wine with a dark golden hues. Bubbles are tiny and last long. The aroma was very fresh, mineral, full of lemon and lime. In the background of the bouquet there were notes of white peach, quince and subtle hint of brioche.
In the mouth The Dean Brut was dry and fruity. Well-balanced, soft and round with high apple acidity. On the palate there were distinct fruit flavours: quince, green and red apples, lime, lemon. Finish was long and mineral with delicate notes of nuts and melon.
The wine is great! Definitely worthwhile knowing. It presents a good quality of English sparkling wines, which we can taste more and more year by year. I think those bubbles should be on a must-have list of every sparkling wine lover!
