To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the fall of Berlin Wall (1989-2014) and the German reunification (1990-2015), Geisenheim University students managed to put together the entire spectrum of German quality wines represented by different grape varieties, 13 German quality wine regions (Ahr, Baden, Franken, Hessische Bergstrasse, Mittelrhein, Mosel, Nahe, Pfalz, Rheingau, Rheinhessen, Saale-Unstrut, Sachsen and Wurttemberg) and many different producers. Students closed the diversity of the German wine world into two bottles of wine – one red, which I write about below, and one white – find out more here
The label of The Red Cuvee has been designed by a famous German artist, Suzanne Titze, and represents her abstract view of the reunification of Germany. Three colours of the German flag (black, red and yellow) merge into each other on the picture, such as grapes blend together in order to a young wine formation.
Let’s take a closer look at the wine.
The colour of the Unification Red Blend 2014 is bright, pale and clear – red with a orange-red hues. The bouquet is medium intense with red fruit aromas: strawberries, black currants and stewed plums. There’s also a hint of liquorice, black pepper and a delicate blackberry aroma at the end.
In the mouth The Unification Red Blend 2014 is fresh, silky, balanced and soft. The tannins are very delicate, the alcohol quite warm and the acidity is zesty, giving the impressions of very lively and round wine.
Palate is full of red and black fruits such as cherries, red currants, black currants, blackberries and a hint of spices at the medium, crisp finish.
